Our story

It started with a month apart.

She was in Lithuania with her family whilst I stayed behind in the UK. Texts weren't enough, so I built something that was.

A month apart is a long time. We messaged every day, we called when we could, but it never felt like enough. A text gets buried amongst all else the second the conversation moves on. I wanted to send her something she could actually hold onto, something that said I love you and I'm thinking of you, properly.

The best part of my day became finding a way to cheer her up. A photo of something that reminded me of her, a few honest words, a little surprise waiting for her when she woke up. Seeing her smile on the other end made the distance feel slightly smaller.

Somewhere in that month it clicked. I'm a software developer. I could build the thing I kept wishing existed: a virtual postcard with a real picture on the front and heartfelt words on the back, that she can receive in seconds no matter where in the world she is, and can keep it pinned to a ‘fridge’, opening it again whenever she wanted.

So I built it.

And now it’s here: Virtual Postcards, a little place for people to send something meaningful to a person they love, wherever they are. Because sometimes it’s a border. Sometimes it’s a time zone. Or other times it’s just a busy week. But distance doesn’t have to mean missing the little things.

For the moments you can’t be there, send a little piece of yourself instead.

Sealed with a tap.
